Thunderwolves fall to Roberts Wesleyan JV in Friday showdown
In their second and final matchup this season, SUNY Niagara men's club soccer lost to Roberts Wesleyan JV, 3-0, Friday in Rochester. The loss to the Redhawks came after SUNY Niagara recorded two draws in a four-day span, including a 2-2 finish against Bryant & Stratton-Rochester on Oct. 18.
The Thunderwolves are now 4-2-2 in their last eight contests, dating back to the first encounter with Roberts Wesleyan, a 2-1 win on Sept. 24.
The Redhawks had a 1-0 lead at halftime and did not extend their lead until scoring twice in the final six minutes of regulation.
Landon Rees stopped a penalty kick in net before he was releived by Ben Chiodo for the final six minutes of play. SUNY Niagara's leading goal-scorer, Gianfranco Centeno, was held scoreless but recorded a team-high four shots. Centeno has a team-best eight goals and six in his last five appearances, dating back to SUNY Niagara's 2-1 win at Lorrain on Oct. 11.
SUNY Niagara (6-4-2) concludes its season at Coyer Field in Buffalo against Buffalo State JV at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
