Karabetsos scores 500th career point, T'Wolves post 10th win of season at Lakeland

SUNY Niagara continued its winning ways behind four players in double-figure scoring in a 84-56 finish over Lakeland Community College Monday in Ohio. Holding onto a 13-11 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Thunderwolves outscored the Lakers 23-9 in the second frame for a 36-20 lead at halftime and maintained their double-digit advantage the rest of the contest.

SUNY Niagara improved to 10-6 this season and has won five of its last seven contests since a 90-30 win over Villa Maria College on Nov. 23. The victory marked head coach Maliek Agee’s first 10-win season of his career and the program’s 13th in the last 14 seasons (2012-13).

Behind a season-high 19 points and game-high 10 assists, Isabella Karabetsos recorded her fifth career double-double (second this season) and scored her 500th career point, the 17th player in program history to reach the scoring mark since the 2016-17 season. After needing just 11 points for the milestone, Karabetsos has now scored 508 career points (10.6 per contest) along with 286 assists (6.0 per contest) in 48 career games.

Azriel Hall scored a team-high 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting, her 16th consecutive game in double-digit scoring, and seven rebounds. This came after Hall established her new career-high of 27 points in SUNY Niagara’s 81-66 win versus Herkimer on Jan. 6. Hall is averaging a team-high 19.2 points per contest, which, following Monday’s contest, is ranked 19th among all NJCAA Division II players.

Shania Beylo tied her career-high of 15 points on 7-of-13 shooting and added five rebounds and four assists to her stat-line. Beylo scored 15 points for the second time in as many games (Herkimer on Jan. 6) and has scored over 10 points in each of her last four outings.

Atarah Walker and Anna Astre rounded out the starting lineup with eight points apiece. Walker had a team-high eight rebounds and Astre added four steals.

Ava Bull added seven of SUNY Niagara’s 11 points and six rebounds off the bench. Allison Milleville and Alana Rivers contributed a basket apiece.
