Thunderwolves clip Roberts Wesleyan in three-set sweep
SUNY Niagara women's volleyball secured a win out in the '585' over Roberts Wesleyan JV with a sweep in three sets, 25-23, 26-24, 25-22, Thursday in Rochester. The victory came after the Thunderwolves split their NJCAA Region III pod at Genesee Community College Sunday.
Sophomore Cait Cliffe recorded a team-high 15 kills and five digs and freshman Sariah Tindal added 10 kills, seven digs and led with three service aces.
Freshman Ava Roberts posted a team-high eight digs and sophomore Ava Gaudy recorded 27 of SUNY Niagara's 29 assists. Sophomore Alexis Majka had two kills and three blocks.
Freshman Nevaeh Hall had four kills and four digs and classmates Jordan Smith (two digs) and Savannah Knobloch (four digs) contributed in the win.
NOTES:
With the two kills against the Redhawks, Majka recorded her 100th and 101st of her career. Through 36 career matches, Majka has 101 career kills (61 this season) with an average of 2.8 kills per set. Majka is also the Thunderwolve's team leader in blocks with 27 and has 46 in her two-year career.
With 15 kills, Cliffe recorded double-digit kills for the 12th time this season and 19th in her career. Dating back to a 16-kill outing versus SUNY Broom on Oct. 12, 2024, Cliffe has now reached double-digit kills in 16 of her last 22 matches. Named the NJCAA Region III Player of the Week on Sept. 30, Cliffe is the team leader this season in kills (209) and digs (97). Cliffe now has 540 kills plus 377 digs in 36 matches.
With 27 against Roberts Wesleyan JV, Gaudy recorded double-digit assists for a seventh consecutive match, extending the longest streak in her SUNY Niagara career. The NJCAA Region III Player of the Week on Sept. 23, Gaudy now has 777 assists in 36 career matches, surpassing 2020 graduate McKenna Collignon's total of 770 for the most by a Thunderwolf in the last 10 seasons (2016).
SUNY Niagara (4-12) continues its season when it hosts a NJCAA Region III pod Saturday in Sanborn. The Thunderwolves begin their day against Onondaga at 10 a.m. followed by Corning at Noon. This is the sixth of seven regional pods on SUNY Niagara's schedule this season.
