Niagara County Community College split a twinbill with rival Erie Community College on Thursday afternoon at the windswept ECC North campus. The nationally-ranked Thunderwolves moved to 16-6 overall and 1-1 in Region III Western Division play. The same two teams will play another pair of ballgames at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Erie CC 17, Niagara CCC 8
NCCC freshman Zach Evans was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, but it wasn't enough to overcome the three-home-run effort of ECC's Adam Rankie. Offensively for the T-Wolves, freshman Carter Arbuthnot had two hits and three RBIs, classmate Andrew Fairbrother was 3-for-3 with an RBI and fellow frosh Alex Minnehan went 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored.
Niagara CCC 20, Erie CC 8
Minnehan remained hot, finishing 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored. Arbuthnot clubbed a home run and scored three times, Fairbrother was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored and sophomore Chris Tani added two hits, three RBIs and scored twice.
