NCCC baseball starts season strong in Florida

The second-ranked Niagara County Community College baseball squad recently kicked off the spring season with a 12-game swing through Florida. The Thunderwolves, last year's NJCAA Division III runner-up, finished the trip with an impressive overall mark of 11-1.

Niagara CCC 6, Glen Oaks CC 0

The freshman duo of Clifton Genge and Troy Leibert combined to toss a one-hitter with 14 strikeouts. Classmate Lance Baldensperger homered in the win.

Niagara CCC 4, Century College 0

Sophomore Kyle Menaker and freshman Trent Wasserman teamed up to throw a no-hitter with 11 Ks. Freshman Zach Evans clubbed a three-run home run.

Niagara CCC 3, Glen Oaks CC 1

Sophomore Vincent Cenname threw four scoreless innings on the hill. Second-year outfielder Chris Tani and freshman Mitch Holtz each went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Niagara CCC 13, Glen Oaks CC 0

Freshman Kyle Finn and sophomore Jackson Winkelsas threw a combined no-hitter in a rain-shortened game. Freshman Jaberi Smith had three RBIs and Evans was 3-for-3 with three runs scored.

Niagara CCC 9, Itasca CC 8

Cenname hit a long ball, while the freshman tandem of Matthew Ferris and Alex Minnehan were 2-for-2. Ferris had three RBIs and Minnehan scored three times.

Freshman Andrew Fairbrother was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and Minnehan had two RBIs as the T-Wolves scored six runs in the last two innings.

Waubonsee CC 3, Niagara CCC 2

Cenname finished 2-for-2 with an RBI double and freshman Will Jackman allowed just five hits over 6.1 innings in the team's lone setback.

Niagara CCC 7, Waubonsee CC 4

Freshman Michael Ribis had eight Ks in four innings of work. At the dish, freshman Vincent Stutz hit a home run and Cenname ripped an RBI two-bagger.

Niagara CCC 10, Westchester CC 6

Stutz homered for the second straight game, Cenname had two hits and three RBIs and freshman Howie Stuckey was 2-for-3 with an RBI double.

Niagara CCC 13, Westchester CC 2

The bats were on fire as freshman Connor Hoehman had two doubles and five RBIs and Tani was 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs.

Niagara CCC 8, Herkimer College 6

Hoehman and Cenname each had a home run and two RBIs, while Tani added two hits and four RBIs in the victory over NCCC's regional rivals.

Niagara CCC 5, Herkimer College 1

Finn tossed a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts. Stutz blasted an RBI double and Baldnesperger scored twice.
